The Weekly Club
Meeting
Each
Wednesday Evening 6:00pm
Roma Restaurant
College Highway
Southwick, MA 01077

Members of the Southwick Rotary Club plan and carry out a
number of activities
and programs for the betterment of the community and the
world in which we live.
Programs and activities include:
Community Events
Rotarians
plan and sponsor events such as its annual Steak
Roast, Jazz 'n Music Festival, Vocational
Awards, monthly raffles, and other activities for
the benefit of the club programs and activities.
The
Club sponsors "Christmas Lighting" contest for
residents of Southwick. Residents are asked to decorate
the exterior of their homes with as many lights as they
wish.
Rotarians invite the community to its annual Christmas
Party, which includes a reception, dinner, Christmas
Lighting Awards, and holiday music provided by Mike
Curran and his holiday jazz band.
Each
September, the Rotary Club float and the membership
participate in the Firemen's Annual Parade. Rotarians
have volunteered to help the Firemen with their carnival
and operate one of the game booths.
Protect the
Environment
Rotarians
participate in the Adopt-A-Highway clean up program along
Routes 10 and 202 in an effort to remove refuse and
beautify the community. The club also hosts a hazardous
waste disposal once per year.
World Health
Education
Rotary works with city and county agencies in an
effort to develop meaningful programs such as AIDS
awareness for an audience of young adults, parents and
members of the community.
Group Study
Exchange
Southwick supports Rotary International's Group Study
Exchange (GSE) program, a program whereby teens of
professionals exchange visits between paired areas in
different countries. Southwick sponsors one adult for the
program. The exchange involves a four-week visit during
which team members share personal knowledge of their own
country and experience the customs, vocations and
lifestyles of another. The purpose of a GSE is to promote
international understanding and goodwill through
person-to-person contact. While abroad, team members stay
in Rotarians' homes and have the opportunity to meet their
professional counterparts. Team members will also
give presentations to Rotary clubs and other groups about
their home country.
World Affairs
Seminar
Annually
a World Affairs Seminar is held at the University of
Wisconsin in Whitewater, a program designed for selected
high school juniors to learn about the customs traditions,
aspirations and heritage of young people from foreign
countries. Each year, a student from Southwick-Tolland
Regional High School is selected to join over 30,000
students from all over the world to attend this weeklong
seminar.
